Google Maps Speedometer: A Safety Feature You Should Enable
Google Maps Speedometer: It is very important to follow traffic rules while driving. It protects you and other people on the road from accidents. But on the road, some people get excited and overspeed their vehicles, which increases the risk of a major accident and a fine. In such a situation, to promote road safety and assist drivers in following speed limits, Google Maps’ speedometer is very useful. Let’s know what is this feature and how it works.
Google Maps’ Speedometer
Google Maps (Google Maps) first launched the on-screen speedometer function in 2019. After that, it was gradually launched across the country. Through the Speedometer feature, Google Maps will warn you that you are driving over the speed limit. This notification will be received on the app itself. This feature is available on both Android and iOS. With the help of this feature, your life and property will be protected. Let’s know how to enable the Speedometer feature:

- First, open the Google Maps app on your Android device.
- After that, you click on your profile picture in the top right corner.
- In the drop-down menu, select “Settings”. This will open the settings menu. From there, select “Navigation settings” to proceed.
- After going to the Navigation settings option, look for the section labeled Driving options. Here you will find features related to your driving experience.
- Within “Driving options”, you will find a toggle switch for the speedometer. To enable the speedometer and get real-time information on your driving speed, turn the switch on.
How does this feature work
Once you turn on the speedometer, it will show your GPS speed while navigating with Google Maps. If you are exceeding the speed limit, it will alert you. Google Maps’ speedometer uses AI to identify speed limits from street view imagery and third-party imagery to help regulate speed.
Don’t rely on the app
Once you enable this service, if users overspeed, Google Maps also gives you a notification of warning. However, you cannot fully rely on Google Maps for driving. Users should also use their discretion when driving.
